Brag

brag
- 14c., braggen, origin obscure, perhaps related to bray of a trumpet. Braggadocio is Spenser's coinage, 1590, from brag, with ending by analogy to the It. words then in vogue. Braggart (1577) though influenced by brag is a different word, from M.Fr. braguer "to show off clothes, especially breeches," from brague "breeches" (see bracket).
